NSSTA Region 1 to Sponsor Ten Teachers at the NSTA Reno Conference

Published on: August 8, 2018

The goal of the newly formed Science Ambassador Program is to invigorate and inspire Nevada State Science Teacher Association (NSSTA) members’ science teaching interests,  allow the ambassador(s) to attend a National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) conference, and share the experience with other Nevada teachers through a virtual meet-up scheduled by NSSTA after the conference.

Region 1 of NSSTA will be sponsoring at least ten teachers as Region 1 Science Ambassadors for the 2018-2019 school year. The monetary support for each Region 1 Science Ambassador will be up to $1000.

The monetary support can be used for conference registration, substitute cost reimbursements to a school, and/or travel expenses (hotel, airfare, etc.) for the October NSTA Area Conference in Reno. Reimbursement forms will be given to the selected Science Ambassadors to use as they incur travel and conference fees to turn into the NSSTA Treasurer along with their receipts. These will be accepted on a rolling basis (i.e. ambassadors can turn in their forms and receipts for airfare and conference registration as soon as they have booked them and do not need to wait until after the conference to submit for reimbursement).  All forms and receipts must be received by the NSSTA Treasurer by December 15, 2018.

After the conference, Science Ambassadors will be scheduled for virtual meet-ups where the ambassadors will share  the professional learning and knowledge gained during conference attendance with other Nevada educators. In addition, each Science Ambassador will write a brief article for the NSSTA website and newsletter.

To apply for the Region 1 Science Ambassador Program, the applicant must be a Region 1 NSSTA member in good standing.  Membership can be verified and/or renewed at www.nvscience.org.  Email NSSTA Membership Coordinator, Lori Henrickson, henrile@nv.ccsd.net, if there are any questions concerning membership status.

Send your application to nvscience@aol.com   Applications are due 8/20/18.

The Science Ambassadors selected must agree to ALL of the following:

  1. Attend the conference.
    1. This year it will be the Area NSTA Conference in Reno, NV October 11-13, 2018.
  2. Submit reimbursement forms and receipts to NSSTA Treasurer for up to $1000 for conference and travel expenses.
    1. All reimbursement materials must be submitted to the NSSTA Treasurer by December 15, 2018.
