I am currently a Project Facilitator for K-12 Science Department in the Curriculum and Instruction Division of the Clark County School District. I am also a member of WestEd’s NextGenScience Peer Review Panel and have a Level 1 EQuIP Leader Credential. I have been on many district, state, and national level cadres, focus groups, and task forces on implementing and evaluating instructional materials and assessments aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards. Before this adventure, I taught middle school Science for ten years in CCSD.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Math & Science Education, and English from Western Michigan University. I also have a Masters Degree in Education in Curriculum and Instruction, with emphasis in Middle School Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
One of the my favorite parts of working with both CCSD and NSSTA is that I get to work with community partners and help create local, relevant instructional materials and supports for our teachers and students. I was lucky enough to work with Lake Mead National Recreation Area a few summers ago as a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher and one of the things that really inspired me was that there are so many businesses and community partners that want to be involved in science education in our state. My hope is to help teachers find these organizations and help these organizations reach teachers to benefit all students in Nevada. Communication is the key to enhancing our ability to work together to support all students in the area of Science.
